Christy’s interest in healing began with a Bachelors degree in Biology from Villanova University in 1996. Christy then went on to receive a Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, CA in 2002.
The years that followed were a period of considerable personal growth for Christy as she immersed herself in the vast field of TCM. Through internships with experienced acupuncturists, Christy was able to refine her knowledge and practical application of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. She also received training in advanced acupuncture techniques, pulse diagnosis and esoteric acupuncture from several noted doctors and authors, such as Dr. Robert Johns (author of The Art of Acupuncture Techniques), Dr. Leon Hammer (author of Chinese Pulse Diagnosis: A Contemporary Approach), and Mikio Sankey (author of Esoteric Acupuncture, Discern the Whisper, and Sea of Fire - Cosmic Fire).
In spring 2002, Christy studied and worked in Hangzhou, China, through ZheJiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There she studied with master acupuncturists and herbalists who specialize in women’s health, oncology, digestive disorders, and psycho-emotional disorders. In San Francisco, Christy has interned or studied with well-known Chinese Medicine practitioners who specialize in women’s health, infertility, and complimentary care during the IVF process, such as Angela Wu and Lifang Liang.
As a post graduate, Christy initially began using Acupuncture in a community setting doing auricular acupuncture for addiction, drug detox/chemical dependency treatment centers in San Francisco and Daly City, CA from 2004-2007. Christy was also employed at Quan Yin Healing Arts Center (which is an urban community-based health clinic that has provides low-cost acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage therapy, and educational classes) in San Francisco from 2005-2007. There Christy gained valuable experience in treating patients with complicated and often severe illnesses, such as HIV, Hepatitis C, cancer, recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, Crohn’s disease, and complex pain patterns.
Christy began to specialize in Fertility and Pregnancy in 2006. She uses Chinese Medicine to work with women and couples at any stage of the process: fertility preparation (regulating menstrual cycles, balancing hormones, boosting egg quality), natural conception, assisted fertility treatments (IUI, IVF), threatened miscarriage, wellness during pregnancy, labor prep and induction, post-natal care and lactation assistance. In 2009, Christy became a Fellow of the American Board or Oriental Reproductive Medicine, which is a specialty board that acknowledges and certifies the advanced knowledge and experience of it’s fellows.
Christy is Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist both nationally and in California since 2002-2003. She is the owner and founder of Dragonwell Chinese Medicine in San Mateo, CA and Oakland, CA. In addition to acupuncture, Dragonwell Chinese Medicine is San Mateo also offers massage therapy and holistic chiropractic services.
